Title: INF'14 Book'em challenge (10/04-10/12) WINNER ANNOUNCED!
Post by: lovepug2 on October 03, 2014, 07:44:32 PM
Here's my challenge for INF'14!
A lot of you guys have participated in my monthly tag swaps. This challenge is a bit of a twist on those.
First off, no swappingis required for this challenge. Of course, you may send your tag to someone if you like.
I usually display the tags that are sent to me and store them in a little album. But I know we've discussed before different ways that you can use your tags. One way is as a bookmark.

So the challenge will be to create a tag that you could use as a bookmark.
It MUST be a single layer tag. As in no layering of papers, no folds, nothing dimensional.
I have a sample I will attach once I take a picture.

Keyword for this challenge is BEINF14
You may combine this with other challenges.
There will be a RAK for this. I hope you'll play along. #>

Fun!  I really like making bookmarks!  Does our bookmark tag need to be the tradition tag shape (like the Ranger tags) or can they be thinner like a traditional book mark?

I actually already have an idea.

I think this is a great challenge because sometimes people wonder what they are going to do with a tag, and you have already told us what to do with it.

Thank you for hosting.

I'm fine with it being either the traditional or the thin traditional size ones O0

Thanks for the challenge!  Single layer projects are indeed a challenge and take some planning ... hmmmm I'll need to think about this one.

Well this will take some thought.  The single layer part will take much thought.  Thank you for hosting such a thought provoking challenge.

Cool.  I can never have enough bookmarks.  I'm glad you made it one layer without embellishments; that's the only kind I'll put inside a book.

Thanks for the challenge.

Hooray! Glad you all like this challenge! Yes, the single layer can propose a bit of a challenge. I caught myself several times almost adding something to mine. I will get my pic uploaded today.

I completed this challenge while making another sample for my own challenge.  I really love bookmarks. I think these would make really nice gift tags and be a gift in itself!

I can't believe Heidi has already finished a challenge.  I haven't even gotten to my craft desk yet.

Very cool challenge.  I don't tend to use bookmarks much anymore since I got my kindle, but this could make a cool stocking stuffer for my mom.

I got my bookmark done.  This is a first for me.  I don't think I've ever had a project finished and posted on the first day of a party before.

Squirrel Bookmark (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=0&pid=592#top_display_media)

Since I'm going to use it as a stocking stuffer for my mom, I went with a squirrel image.  I have several.  And I found out that I have over a dozen acorn stamps.

I realized after I finished that I failed to check with LeighAnn to make sure it was ok to add fibers at the top for sticking out of the book.  I just automatically think of bookmarks having yarn or some kind of fibers that stick out the top.  I hope that's ok.

And I actually hate how the hand drawn heart came out.  So I changed the bookmark after taking the picture.  I used a Spellbinder die to cut out the offending heart and then cut a new heart from one of the reject background pieces.  This piece was the third attempt for Heidi's challenge.  I restamped the sentiment and inked the edges of the new heart with Distress Ink in Tea Dye.  I mounted the bookmark on a scrap piece of paper and inlayed the new heart.

I made a tag for a bookmark and incorporated words that have meaning in what I think of when I think of reading.  I love to read but I usually read on my Kindle so no need for a bookmark.  I think I will give this to my grandson.  Hopefully he will like it.  Reading Bookmark (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?album=71&pid=595#top_display_media)

Got a funny & spooky story to share about my (finished) bookmark.

I was having all kinds of ideas about what I might do for this & not happy 'cause the stuff I wanted to use was nowhere to be found in my stashes. Then I decided to check what I had in the piles on my work table. Lo & behold, I found goodies that were 'well-buried' treasures. Nothing spooky there, but after doing much of the work, I knew I wanted to add a 'postage' type stamp, so I went into my envelopes of rubber & pulled the first one I found. It had never been used & (here's the spooky) it's 'postmark' was perfect for the piece!

Looking forward to sharing it with y'all.

Sadie & Stampwilly - you both made fabulous collage bookmarks.  I have such a hard time doing collages.  But after seeing your pieces, I may have to give it another go.

Daniel - Don't just hate it when your stuff hides from you.  You know you have it but you just can't find it.  So frustrating.  Glad you found what you were looking for and for finding the perfect postage stamp.

Wow! Y'all have been on the ball!!! I just peeked at everyone's entries so far and they're all wonderful!!

Sarah, love the squirrel one for your mom. I have a lot of acorn stamps too. And a lot of other fall themed stamps :o
And it's fine to add ribbon to the top too!

Heidi, I love how you combined it with your challenge. It worked out great O0.

Sadie and April, I love the collage stamping you both did! I was hoping someone would do that for this challenge O0. I get a little intimidate by collage stamping but think I might try it again!

Daniel, looking forward to seeing yours! Glad you unearthed some of your stash!

I'm off to leave some praise  :smitten:.

LeighAnn, if you haven't already watched the video for the masterboard, I think that addresses some of the things about collage too.  There is also on of the crafting videos from Australia that does a show on stamping patterned paper, if I remember the name of the series I might be able to find it.

I had fun with this one! Used some so far for me unused stamps and my new distress inks. Spritzed it with shimmer mist but it's hard to tell how sparkly it is in my photo.

I used one of my Lighten Up backgrounds on watercolor paper to create a one layer bookmark.  I was inspired by the collage style bookmarks that have been linked to this challenge.

I knew I could never hand cut tag corners and have them turn out even, so I trimmed my background to a wide tag shape and inserted the top end only under a Spellbinder's octagon die.

Thanks for the challenge LeighAnn!  I had fun using lots of stamps and inks to create this Halloween bookmark. (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=0&pid=612#top_display_media)

I made a bookmark out of my master board:  bright bookmark (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?pid=652&message_id=de84a66192395492e868ddb2ed62624c&message_icon=info#cpgMessageBlock)

I have not made a bookmark, but it does feel similar to making a tag.  I usually just grab a magazine insert or paper that's laying around to keep a spot in a cooking magazine or cook book….now I have a pretty book mark for such thing!!

Thank you LeighAnn for hosting this challenge!  I have fun!

I had such fun reading through this thread and looking once again at all the wonderful bookmarks.  My fingers are itching to get my hands on them.  I still read the kind of books that require bookmarks.

Daniel, I'm so curious to see the things you've made--your bookmark and your ATCs and whatever else you've made.  Looking forward to seeing them posted.  (BTW, I replaced my old scanner, and Nora gave me her old camera.  Therefore, anytime you need someone to scan or photograph your stuff, I'm available once again.)

Sarah, your inlaid heart looks great on the remake of your bookmark.

Congratulations, Kathy, on your win!

WTG, Kathy!

Daria. Big thanks for the offer. I'll definitely keep you in mind for sending stuff to. Although my inability to do my own scanning & such is often a PITA  :tickedoff:, in a way it's also a blessing.  ??? It forces me to actually share my stuff with others on a physical way. It's why I like challenges that include a bit of swapping. KWIM?

LeighAnn, I made a bookmark.  It's more of a traditonal bookmark rather than a tag, but it was inspired by your challenge and I finished it during for my Second Chance Challenge.  I actually started the darn thing during the original Inktoberfest week, but . . .

Here it is. (http://www.duhnproductions.com/Pics/displayimage.php?album=lastupby&cat=0&pid=688&uid=553#top_display_media)

Thank you for getting me started with your challenge.
